Onto My Next 40 Years

My adventures in reading and writing

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Isolated Subjects

Yesterday was a tough day.  I was feeling really tired and had a hard time clearing the fog in my brain.  I have been walking everyday, but it’s tough to fight the fatigue mentally and physically, so I listened to my body and rested.  After dinner though, I got a burst of energy and immediately put on my walking shoes and hit the pavement before the energy was gone.  I came upon this abandoned rose in the middle of the sidewalk.  I took a quick pick and continued on so I wouldn’t lose my momentum, but I wondered about that rose.  Why was it there?  Who dropped it?  Why?  Did someone get their heart broken tonight?  Did someone lose a loved one or were they remembering someone?  Did someone throw it to the ground in anger and stomp on it to hurt whoever hurt them?  So many possibilities and I’ll never know which one.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Sky

CFFC (Cee’s Photography)

I took this pic on a walk last week because of all the different kinds of clouds all in one space.  When I look at the clouds in the sky, I do 1 of 2 things – 1) I imagine myself flying through the clouds, lying on their fluffy coolness and spying on the world below or 2) I look for fun shapes in the clouds like in one of my favorite children’s books, It Looked Like Spilled Milk by Charles G. Shaw.  I would always read this book in Spring to my Preschool class and then we would take some white paint, drip it onto blue paper and then fold the paper in half and squish the paint around.  We would then take turns opening our papers to see what shape cloud we made.  Preschoolers have wonderful imaginations.  Sometimes I miss being a preschool teacher.

Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

I’d have to say cold.  I can’t stand the heat.  I have never been good with high temps.  I was always the kid who got heat stroke as I was growing up and things really haven’t changed much for me as I became an adult though I think my joints now would prefer warmer weather.

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

I love long hair.  You can do so much more with it, but as previously mentioned, I hate being hot, so eventually I always cut every year when the temps start going up for my own survival.

What is your favorite month of the year?

November.  Yes, it is my birthday month, but is is also when the weather finally starts to get cool, the holidays are coming, lots of family time to look forward to, the leaves are changing, yummy foods, and all that goodness.

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

I can listen or read about something, but I never really understand it I see it done and then do it myself.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for finally finishing one of the shawls I have been working on and I also got out and painted some pottery.  I am also glad to be back to writing and taking pictures after awhile away from it all.

This week, I look forward to the energy boost I seem to be having at the moment.  I made this Essential Oil cream that is helping my joint pain and keeping me getting out there and walking each day.  I am also trying Clarity essential oil to help me with the fog that often takes over my brain when I get super tired due to my chronic fatigue and so far the scent isn’t my favorite, but the fog clears and it’s wonderful.  I think I might add something citrusy to go with it to make the scent more bearable since it seems to really be helping.  Crossing my fingers it helps.

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

No. My parents were hoping I would be a boy and they had picked the the name Jubal, which is a biblical name for, according to wikipedia, the forefather of all musicians. Luckily, I turned out to be a girl and they went with the most popular baby name of the year, Jennifer.

Music or silence while working?

It depends on what I am working on, but most of the time I like to have some sort of noise in the background.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?

They would be – my Dad’s dog tags, my Mom’s pearls, and the ring my husband got me on our trip to Hawaii.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

I will never try cocaine, meth, or heroin. They scare the crap out of me with what the addiction does people.

I will never bungee jump. After many years of thinking about it, I think I have finally come to the conclusion that no matter how many little pep talks I try to give myself, it’s not happening.

I will never get plastic surgery. I just want to grow old the way I am with wrinkles, gray hair and all.

I will never eat snails, haggis, or blood pudding. I’m sure there are other things, but these are the ones that always stick out to me when I am watching food shows. They always talk about how good these things are, but no matter all the beautiful and tantalizing words they use, these foods will never cross my lips.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for lazy days. They kids I work with had the day off last Friday and one of them was sick so we had to stay in, but it was nice. I got to introduce them to the scariness of Jaws, make cake in a mug, color some postcards, and continue knitting our scarves.

This week I am looking forward to scrapbooking this week. I printed up a bunch of pictures over the weekend and now I need to start working on layouts.

Letters E or F (Cee’s Photography)

Letter E: The E line of the NYC subway.  I took this picture when I went to visit my sister after 9/11.  I never did get to see the World Trade Center before 9/11 though I have heard from many since about their stories visiting or working in the WTC.  I have a fascination with architecture whether it be old or modern and would have liked to have seen the buildings with mine own eyes.  Now they are just a memory and a reminder of how strong hate can be, but also of how when hate tried to bring us down, we came together, no matter the color of our skin, our faiths, or where we were from and helped each other.  I only wish people could remember that everyday and stop the hate that is building across our country now.
Letter F: F is for flower.  I take a lot of pictures of flowers.  I’m am not good at growing them.  In fact, anything that flowers I tend to kill.  When I went to Green Corn,my tribal naming ceremony, and was bestowed with the name, Aweheyetwas, meaning “she how plants flowers”, I almost laughed, but I hoped it meant that one day, I would obtain a green thumb.  It hasn’t happened yet.  So for now I just take pictures of the beautiful flowers I find and plant them in my memories.

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

It depends on the day.  Some days I feel like I’m in my early 30’s full of energy yet not so foolish as my 20’s.  I cherish those days.  Most days since the Chronic Fatigue began, I feel like I’m in my 80’s or 90’s, tired, pains all over, unable to move quickly and sometimes in need of help getting up and down stairs, and of course naps everyday.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

I think I do own an umbrella, but I have no idea where it is.  I don’t really know why I own an umbrella as I never use one.  I where a jacket when needed, but I don’t mind walking in the rain.  I never have.  I find holding an umbrella to be annoying especially when it’s windy.  So no I don’t search for it.

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending with quiet time alone?

I prefer spending time alone most of the time.  There are instances where going out with friends can be fun, but I’m a home body at heart.  I enjoy spending time alone with my knitting, scrapbooking, journaling, or catching up on shows, etc.

Name three things you and your spouse, partner or best friend to have in common.

We love to compete.  When we are alone together, we often play games be that board games, card games, or video games.  We also love to team up at family parties and often win whatever game played.

We both have big hearts and take care of the ones we love no matter what it costs us.

We both love music and love to sing, though my husbands voice is way better than mine.  When we karaoke, people stop to listen to him.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I got my oils from Young Living last week.  I have been using the diffuser at night and it has been helping me to relax and get to a more restful sleep so I am grateful for that.

I am looking forward cooler weather and rain this week.  I do not enjoy the heat and we had several 80 degree days last week, so when the forecast of cooler temps and rain came up for this week, I rejoiced.  I don’t want it to be summer till summer.  Please 🙂

Clock – the clock at Sleepy Hollow
Christmas Cupcakes – my husband’s niece makes the best cookies and cupcakes

Carriage – in the museum at Hearst Castle
Dancers – marrying a Samoan man means there are always dancers at every party in some way shape or form

Dog – This is Nugget my first dog.  When he got older, he had trouble going up and down the stairs, so whenever I went down, he’d sit lay down at the top of the stairs and wait for me to come back up.  Nugget really didn’t like men, but the minute he met my husband for the first time he liked him and I finally knew for sure that I had found the right man for me.
noahbdaydogs 015
Dog – This is Max.  He was also my first dog and brother to Nugget.  He was my protector.  He was very loving.  Whenever I would take naps on the couch after work, he’d check on me every now and then putting his face close to mine.  We always said he was checking to make sure we were still breathing.  He also did his little “perimeter checks”, walking all around the house or yard every hour or so.
Dog – This is Gracie.  She’s my friends dog.  My husband and I moved in with Gracie and our friend when times got tough for a few months and Gracie kept me sane for those months.  She loved to play one minute and cuddle the next.  She really hated it when all of us went to work and the way she would deal with that was to burrow deep under a pile of blankets on the couch and sleep under there for at least the first hour we were gone.
Dog – This is Django or DJ.  He’s my fur nephew.  I love visiting my sister and her husband.  We always have good times together no matter what, but DJ always makes it even better.  He gets so excited to see me whenever I go and I that just makes my day, but then he also just loves to hang out, get scratches and be in the middle of everything.  He’s starting to get old, but he still acts like the puppy he is.
Dad – This isn’t the greatest picture, but I have very few pictures of my Dad so I cherish it.  He died 27 years ago, but I still miss him everyday.  He was the best Dad ever.

For a few years after his death, the city of Santa Rosa, CA celebrated Charles M. Schulz by having a “Peanuts on Parade” program.  Different businesses around town would decorate or paint the chosen character and then display them for a few months before they were auctioned off to create art scholarships.  My husband and I happened to go the years Woodstock and Charlie Brown were the chosen characters.  They no longer change the characters every year, but there still 70 statues on display around town (you can download a PDF of their locations here) plus there are a few at the Schulz museum, which if you like the Peanuts cartoons, visiting the museum is a must.

Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?

Not usually, but if I’m in a hurry or feeling impatient I do.  No, I don’t believe it makes the elevator come faster, but it does make me feel like I am doing something.  If there are lots of people around I try not to do it, instead I make a game of which elevator is coming first.

Do you plan out things usually or do you do them more spontaneous (for example if you are visiting a big city you don’t know?)

I guess I do a little planning.  I look to see what’s there, if there are any special or free events happening in the city, and make a list of the “must see” places.  The “must see” places come first and then we explore around those places.  Though if there are free days at museums or street festivals, those factor in to which days we see things.

Describe yourself in at least four uplifting words.

Determined, caring, loving, helpful

If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

Salt water beaches for sure.  The smell of the fresh air, the sound of the waves, the feel of the sand in my toes.  My mood always lifts the closer I get to a beach.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for all the walking I got done last week.  I moved my walks up from 20 minutes to 30 minutes and I even made it to the gym.  Though by the end of the week I was completely exhausted because I pushed myself just a little too much.  I have had to rest these past 4 days, but I am feeling a little better today which I hope means I can get back to walking, but maybe not so fast as I was going last week, so I don’t tire myself out so badly.

This week I am looking forward to getting back out there.  I am also looking forward to getting my essential oils kit.  I have used oils a little over the years, but I finally decided I want to try more as it seems every time I look up a remedy for something, oil recipes keep coming up, so I got myself a starter kit and a diffuser from my friend who sells them.  I also think that part of my excitement also has to do with not only wanting to concentrate better, sleep better, etc., but also the getting to experiment like a mad scientist, trying recipes, tweaking recipes, and seeing what really works.  Have any of you used essential oils and found a particular recipe that really worked for you?  Please share it in the comments if so, I’d love to hear about it.
