Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Vibrant Colors (Cee’s Photography)
I took this picture this past summer at the finish line of the “J&R Cruisers For Leukemia” bike ride. My husband’s nephew, Jason, died a few years ago after being diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 30. Just when our family started moving forward again after Jason’s death, his brother, Richard, was also diagnosed with Leukemia. Richard is still going through treatment, but so far, he’s doing well.
The year after Jason’s death, our family started participating in the “Light the Night” walk in memory of Jason and to raise money to help find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma. When Richard got sick too, their father, George, started the “J&R Cruisers for Leukemia” bike ride. They ride from San Francisco to San Jose on Cruiser bikes. I don’t know how to ride a bike as I have mentioned before, but I am really good at cheering them on and shooting confetti over the riders when they finally make it to the finish line.
I’m really proud to be apart of this family that really comes together when support is needed. This weekend we are all coming together once again for the “Light the Night” walk. We will come together to share our memories of Jason as we walk. We will walk with Richard and celebrate the fact that he is able to walk along with us. We will walk and create new memories filled with love and laughter. If you would like to support Team Achica Strong, click here. We have raised 43% of our goal of $1000 and have only a few days left to get there. We walk to support others who have loved and lost. We walk with the hope that sometime, hopefully in the near future, they will find a cure.
