Lindsey woke up in the middle of the night.  She wasn’t sure what woke her.  Sitting up in her bed, she listened to the night to see if it was a sound that had pulled her out of dreamland.  She could hear the fan at the foot of her bed, her husband’s slow breathing next to her, the traffic going by outside the open window, and water dripping.  Water dripping.  What was dripping?  Lindsey swung her legs out of bed, putting on her slippers as her feet touched the ground.  She stood up quietly letting her eyes adjust to the darkness around her.  She moved slowly through the apartment in the direction of the dripping water finding herself in the kitchen.  She turned on the light and found that the sink wasn’t completely turned off.  She tightened the faucet, turned off the light and then just stood there.  The clock on the microwave said 5:30 am.  There would be no going back to sleep now.  She reached behind the keurig machine and turned it on.  As it warmed up, she found her favorite storm trooper coffee mug, pulled the peppermint mocha coffee creamer out of the fridge and poured some into her cup.  The machine indicated it was ready.  She chose the breakfast blend from the drawer and dropped it in, set her mug underneath, and pushed go.  The smell of the coffee as it brewed was heaven.  She stirred her coffee to make sure the creamer was mixed in well and set the spoon in the sink.  Picking up her mug, she moved into the living room and sat on the couch.  She was about to reach for the TV remote so she could watch the news, but decided against it.  She didn’t want the day to start yet.  She sat back on the couch, slowly sipping her coffee, and enjoying the peace and quiet.  Sometimes sitting in the darkness and drinking coffee is in order.
