Onto My Next 40 Years

My adventures in reading and writing

Share Your World – March 20, 2017

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

It depends on the day.  Some days I feel like I’m in my early 30’s full of energy yet not so foolish as my 20’s.  I cherish those days.  Most days since the Chronic Fatigue began, I feel like I’m in my 80’s or 90’s, tired, pains all over, unable to move quickly and sometimes in need of help getting up and down stairs, and of course naps everyday.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

I think I do own an umbrella, but I have no idea where it is.  I don’t really know why I own an umbrella as I never use one.  I where a jacket when needed, but I don’t mind walking in the rain.  I never have.  I find holding an umbrella to be annoying especially when it’s windy.  So no I don’t search for it.

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending with quiet time alone?

I prefer spending time alone most of the time.  There are instances where going out with friends can be fun, but I’m a home body at heart.  I enjoy spending time alone with my knitting, scrapbooking, journaling, or catching up on shows, etc.

Name three things you and your spouse, partner or best friend to have in common.

We love to compete.  When we are alone together, we often play games be that board games, card games, or video games.  We also love to team up at family parties and often win whatever game played.

We both have big hearts and take care of the ones we love no matter what it costs us.

We both love music and love to sing, though my husbands voice is way better than mine.  When we karaoke, people stop to listen to him.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I got my oils from Young Living last week.  I have been using the diffuser at night and it has been helping me to relax and get to a more restful sleep so I am grateful for that.

I am looking forward cooler weather and rain this week.  I do not enjoy the heat and we had several 80 degree days last week, so when the forecast of cooler temps and rain came up for this week, I rejoiced.  I don’t want it to be summer till summer.  Please 🙂

My husband and I were looking for new trails to walk and found this great place.  There were several different trails to try all varying in degree of difficulty.  I took the easier trail since hills are still a problem for me while my husband went for the one of the more difficult trails hoping to see how many flights of stairs it would equal by the end.  We agreed to meet back at the car in 45 minutes.  Of course, minutes after I took this picture, the clouds began to clear, and it went from a nice cool day to walk to a seriously hot day.  I don’t do well in the heat, but I made it around the trail stopping once at a bench to catch my breath, have some water, and get a little shade.  When we met up again, my husband was happy to report that he’d climbed enough hills to equal 27 flights of stairs.

Dog – This is Nugget my first dog.  When he got older, he had trouble going up and down the stairs, so whenever I went down, he’d sit lay down at the top of the stairs and wait for me to come back up.  Nugget really didn’t like men, but the minute he met my husband for the first time he liked him and I finally knew for sure that I had found the right man for me.

Dog – This is Max.  He was also my first dog and brother to Nugget.  He was my protector.  He was very loving.  Whenever I would take naps on the couch after work, he’d check on me every now and then putting his face close to mine.  We always said he was checking to make sure we were still breathing.  He also did his little “perimeter checks”, walking all around the house or yard every hour or so.
Dog – This is Gracie.  She’s my friends dog.  My husband and I moved in with Gracie and our friend when times got tough for a few months and Gracie kept me sane for those months.  She loved to play one minute and cuddle the next.  She really hated it when all of us went to work and the way she would deal with that was to burrow deep under a pile of blankets on the couch and sleep under there for at least the first hour we were gone.
Dog – This is Django or DJ.  He’s my fur nephew.  I love visiting my sister and her husband.  We always have good times together no matter what, but DJ always makes it even better.  He gets so excited to see me whenever I go and I that just makes my day, but then he also just loves to hang out, get scratches and be in the middle of everything.  He’s starting to get old, but he still acts like the puppy he is.
Dad – This isn’t the greatest picture, but I have very few pictures of my Dad so I cherish it.  He died 27 years ago, but I still miss him everyday.  He was the best Dad ever.

One A Week Photo Challenge: Spiral

OAWPC: Spiral (Wild Daffodil)

My older Sister lived in NYC for a few years starting unfortunately in August 2001.  After 9/11 happened I went to visit her and see with my own eyes that she and her husband were really OK.  My Sister met me at the airport and we made our way back to NYC.  It was late at night and I was exhausted from my flight across the country.  As we entered her building with my large suitcase full of Christmas presents, I found myself at the bottom of these stairs that spiraled up.  My Sister confirmed what I was beginning to realize.  There was no elevator.  Thankfully my brother in law came down the stairs and carried my suitcase up.  I don’t know if I would have made it to their apartment on the 5th and top floor if he hadn’t.  We went up and down those stairs everyday as we set out to explore the city.  We also enjoyed the joys of delivery when it was too cold to go back out for dinner or to bring the groceries we didn’t want to lug up the stairs.  My Sister found out over the years that she could have all kinds of things delivered for which she was grateful.  It seems NYC was first in delivery systems the rest of us are just beginning to enjoy with apps like Postmates, TaskRabbit, and DoorDash just to name a few.

One-A-Week-Photo Challenge: Fence

OAWPC: Fence (Wild Daffodil)

I know this post is a few weeks late, but it took me forever to find this picture.  I thought of it the minute this topic came up.  I loved this fence when I saw it.  I took this picture in NYC, but I can’t remember where unfortunately.  My sister and I were just trying to waste some time while we were waiting for my brother-in-law to get off of work so we could go out to dinner.  This little park  was a quiet little escape within the city.  It was a sunny yet cold day.  We sat on a bench soaking in the sun and just talking.  We had been running around for days seeing all we could see and it was nice to take some time to hangout, so this fence was  a perfect way to remember that day.

For a few years after his death, the city of Santa Rosa, CA celebrated Charles M. Schulz by having a “Peanuts on Parade” program.  Different businesses around town would decorate or paint the chosen character and then display them for a few months before they were auctioned off to create art scholarships.  My husband and I happened to go the years Woodstock and Charlie Brown were the chosen characters.  They no longer change the characters every year, but there still 70 statues on display around town (you can download a PDF of their locations here) plus there are a few at the Schulz museum, which if you like the Peanuts cartoons, visiting the museum is a must.

Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?

Not usually, but if I’m in a hurry or feeling impatient I do.  No, I don’t believe it makes the elevator come faster, but it does make me feel like I am doing something.  If there are lots of people around I try not to do it, instead I make a game of which elevator is coming first.

Do you plan out things usually or do you do them more spontaneous (for example if you are visiting a big city you don’t know?)

I guess I do a little planning.  I look to see what’s there, if there are any special or free events happening in the city, and make a list of the “must see” places.  The “must see” places come first and then we explore around those places.  Though if there are free days at museums or street festivals, those factor in to which days we see things.

Describe yourself in at least four uplifting words.

Determined, caring, loving, helpful

If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?

Salt water beaches for sure.  The smell of the fresh air, the sound of the waves, the feel of the sand in my toes.  My mood always lifts the closer I get to a beach.

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for all the walking I got done last week.  I moved my walks up from 20 minutes to 30 minutes and I even made it to the gym.  Though by the end of the week I was completely exhausted because I pushed myself just a little too much.  I have had to rest these past 4 days, but I am feeling a little better today which I hope means I can get back to walking, but maybe not so fast as I was going last week, so I don’t tire myself out so badly.

This week I am looking forward to getting back out there.  I am also looking forward to getting my essential oils kit.  I have used oils a little over the years, but I finally decided I want to try more as it seems every time I look up a remedy for something, oil recipes keep coming up, so I got myself a starter kit and a diffuser from my friend who sells them.  I also think that part of my excitement also has to do with not only wanting to concentrate better, sleep better, etc., but also the getting to experiment like a mad scientist, trying recipes, tweaking recipes, and seeing what really works.  Have any of you used essential oils and found a particular recipe that really worked for you?  Please share it in the comments if so, I’d love to hear about it.

Sunday Trees – 278

Sunday Trees – 278 (Becca Givens)

Spring is almost here and the CherrY Trees are in full bloom.  Some of them have even fully shredded all their blossoms.  I came across this pretty pink one while I was picking up the kids last week.  And look at those blue skies.  I miss the clouds and the rain.  The temps are already going up around here.  This week we are destined for 80 degree weather.  I wish if it wasn’t going to rain, that it would at least be cool for awhile.  I’m not ready for summer yet.  Well, here’s to another great week.  I have been walking almost everyday though I had to rest a lot this weekend, but I am hoping I can get back to it this week.  I gotta keep moving forward and at least I have gotten to the part where I am starting to enjoy walking again.  WOO-HOO!!!

I love rainy days, but I also love blue skies.  There’s something about the sky blue that just makes me smile just seeing it.
